The Black Back Butterflyfish is a stunning and very colorful butterfly. Black Back Butterflyfish have a mostly white body with strong black diagonal stripes and a vertical black stripe through their eyes. Black Back Butterflyfish also have their entire body outlined in brilliant yellow.

Black Back Butterflyfish reach a maximum adult size of around 6 inches and need to be kept in tanks that at least 125 gallons in size. Black Back Butterflies are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother many other fish or inverts. Black Back Butterflyfish will eat some corals including LPS and soft corals, making them a bad choice to add to a reef tank.

Black Back Butterflyfish are strong and active swimmers and need a tank with lots of open swimming room. Being very peaceful fish, Black Back Butterflyfish should not be kept with overly aggressive fish. Black Back Butterflies will do best when kept in tanks that have lots of live rock for them to look for small inverts on and also to hide in if they feel threatened.

Black Back Butterflyfish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood will keep your Black Back Butterflyfish healthy and happy.
