The Blackstripe Pseudochromis (Pseudochromis perspicillatus), also known as the Southeast Asian Blackstripe Dottyback, is a captivating and relatively rare fish found in the Indo-Pacific region. This small but striking fish boasts a unique coloration with a black horizontal band on its upper body and a distinctive dark eye band that extends from its snout to the gill area. The rest of its body varies in color, ranging from grayish with a reddish or yellow belly to an overall whitish hue. Its vibrant colors and interesting patterns make it a sought-after addition to saltwater aquariums.

In the wild, the Blackstripe Pseudochromis inhabits silty coastal habitats with scattered coral heads and soft bottoms. It is a territorial and somewhat aggressive fish, especially towards conspecifics, and requires ample hiding places and territory in the aquarium. As a carnivore, it feeds on small invertebrates, such as copepods and amphipods, and should be offered a varied diet of meaty foods in captivity. With its unique coloration, interesting behavior, and relative rarity, the Blackstripe Pseudochromis is a rewarding and captivating addition to a well-maintained saltwater aquarium.
