  • Description
  • Caulerpa is a very useful and fast growing macro-algae that is extremely popular with aquarists. Caulerpa is a leafy green plant that grows in marine environments. Caulerpa has stalks with many leaves growing off of it.

Caulerpa is mostly kept out of the display tank in an attached refugium. Caulerpa is considered invasive and if it gets in the display tank, it will spread and be very hard to remove. Caulerpa should be kept with both moderate lighting and water flow in the refugium.

Caulerpa will grow very quickly and needs to be trimmed as it gets near the size that can be held in the refugium. Caulerpa feeds off of the nitrates in the aquarium, and as it grows and gets trimmed will remove nitrates from your system. Caulerpa has the possibility of going asexual and fouling the water. The first signs of Caulerpa going asexual is when the plant starts turning white. If Caulerpa is trimmed and kept in the proper lighting and water flow environments, it shouldn't go asexual and will be a great help in filtering your water and keeping your tank clean.

Caulerpa grows strictly off of photosynthesis and through processing the nutrients in your tank, it should not need any supplement feedings to grow and thrive.
