  • Description
  • Chaetomorpha is an extremely useful and easy to care for algae. Chaetomorpha is mostly green in color and grows in an intertwined ball of algae.

Chaetomorpha should be placed in your tank's refugium and needs intense lighting and moderate water flow so that it can tumble. Chaetomorpha will start to bleach if there isn't enough light, so keep an eye out for any signs of your Chaeto starting to look stressed.

Chaetomorpha is extremely popular with aquarist since it grows off of absorbing both nitrates and phosphates from your tank. High nitrates and phosphates can cause all types of issues in your tank ranging from algae to livestock health problems. As your Chaetomorpha grows, simply cut off large sections of it and discard. Repeating this process with continually lower the nitrates and phosphates in your system.

Chaeto is best kept out of your display tank in a connected refugium. Chaetomorpha also is a great host for pods like amphipods and copepods. These pods are excellent live foods for many fish and will be greatly appreciated by your fish.
