  • Description
  • Acropora small polyped stony (SPS) corals are some of the most desired of all the coral available for a reef tank. Acropora comes in a huge variety of colors, shapes and sizes. A reef tank full of Acropora is the crown jewel of reef keeping.

Acropora are considered peaceful coral and will normally not bother other coral in the tank. Acropora requires extremely intense lighting as well has very strong flow rates. Acropora will also do better in tanks with random flow patterns. Acropora can be placed anywhere in the tank where it will receive enough light.

Acropora tends to do the best in tanks that have very low nutrients and pristine water conditions. Smaller Acropora do not require many additional trace elements added to the tank, but large colonies will require additional dosing of calcium and other trace elements.

Acropora relies mostly on photosynthesis to receive most of its nutrition. Acropora can benefit from supplement feeds of small meaty foods adding to the tank in the evening hours like baby brine shrimp and micro-plankton. Given perfect conditions, Acropora actually grows at a very fast and rapid pace. If you kept your tank clean and water parameters in check, Acropora can be a great choice for your reef tank.
