  • Description
  • The Porites Coral is a stunning SPS (Small Polyped Stony) coral that can grow in various shapes. Porites Corals can grow in either branching manner or grow more encrusting in nature. Porites Coral can also come in a host of colors, with yellow and brown being the most common.

Porites Coral should be placed in the middle to top of the aquarium and require both moderate to high lighting and flow rates. After you have placed your Porites Coral, watch for signs of stress. If you are not seeing good polyp extension just move your Porites Coral a few inches and watch for signs of improvement. Porites Corals will do best under intense LED or metal halide lighting. Just remember to acclimate your Porites Coral to intense lighting over a long period of time. Porites Coral will also like strong random flow.

Porites Coral are peaceful coral and can be placed close to other peaceful coral species. Porites Coral can be damaged and killed by more aggressive coral species like some LPS, so please take this into account when placing a Porites Coral in your tank.

Porites Corals get most of their nutritional needs from photosynthesis, so they normally do not require additional feedings. If you would like to supplement the diet of your Porites Coral, simply feed the tank meaty foods like plankton or baby brine shrimp in the evening hours.
