The Africanus Angelfish is one of the rarest angelfish you can keep in your aquarium. It is only found on the Western Coast of Africa and rarely shows up for sale.

The Africanus Angelfish can reach an adult size of around 16 inches, so needs an aquarium of at least 150 gallons to thrive as an adult. When a juvenile, the Africanus Angel has a much more blue coloration. As it ages, the Aficanus Angel starts to become more pales and yellow in color, with a large central white stripe.

The Africanus Angelfish will get along well with other similarly sized fish, but should really be the only angelfish kept in an aquarium, unless your aquarium is very large. Africanus Angelfish should probably not be kept in a reef aquarium either, since they are known to pick at both hard and soft corals, as well as clams. There are always exceptions given the individual nature of each fish, but proceed with caution if adding an Africanus Angel to your reef system.

The Africanus Angelfish requires a diet of smaller foods like mysis shrimp, Spirulina and marine algae to thrive. A good amount of rock will also provide algae to graze on and good hiding places for an Africanus Angelfish.
