  • Description
  • The Wrought Iron Butterflyfish(Chaetodon daedalma) is by far the rarest and most beautiful Butterflyfish that is available in aquaria, and is not an obligate corallivore. This fish is almost never seen in the hobby, due to its remote location, and is rarely imported into the United States.

The Wrought Iron Butterfly has an almost metallic look to it, giving the fish its name. Its scales gleam under reef lighting, and the bright yellow outline on its anal fins make this fish one of the most unique and striking fish in the aquarium hobby.

Chaetodon daedalma maxes out at just under 6”, and will live comfortably in tanks 120 gallons or larger. The Wrought Iron Butterfly is still part of the Genus Chaetodon, and will have a tendency to nip at fleshy LPS polyps, and other corals. However, there have been multiple success stories with this fish in reefs, but there is always a chance of coral nipping.

The diet for a Wrought Iron Butterfly should consist of meaty frozen foods, such as frozen mysis or brine shrimp. Spirulina algae, nori, or any other type of plant-based food will help this fish thrive.
