The Flame Cardinal is a very colorful and fun fish to add to your aquarium. The Flame Cardinal is a fiery red smaller fish which can make a great additional to most tanks.

The Flame Cardinal reaches it full grown size of 4 inches, meaning that it can be housed in an aquarium as small as 29 gallons. The Flame Cardinal can be aggressive towards other cardinalfish, so keep larger numbers should be limited to larger tanks. The Flame Cardinal is considered reef safe, since it should not bother any corals or inverts.

The Flame Cardinal should be only housed with other peaceful fish, larger more aggressive fish might find the Flame Cardinal as an attractive meal. Having a lot of rock in your tank will help keep your Flame Cardinal happy. It will provide lots of places for the Flame Cardinal to hide if they feel threatened. The Flame Cardinal fish are mostly active during the night, so they add an interest nocturnal addition to your tank.

The Flame Cardinal is a carnivore, so it requires a diet that is reach in smaller meaty foods. Foods such as live feeder fish, bloodworms, mysis and brine shrimp should be offered. Over time, the Flame Cardinal might even start eating high quality flake food.
