The Blue Line Grouper (Cephalopholis formosa), also known as the Bluelined Hind or Boenacki Grouper, is a striking and predatory fish found in the Indo-Pacific region. This grouper is characterized by its light red to yellowish-brown body adorned with multiple vertical blue lines. Its fins are often highlighted with dark blue, adding to its visual appeal. As a relatively large species, reaching up to 13-14 inches in length, it demands a spacious environment to thrive in captivity.

Keeping a Blue Line Grouper in an aquarium requires careful consideration due to its aggressive temperament and carnivorous diet. A minimum tank size of 250 gallons is recommended to accommodate its size and territorial nature. They are ambush predators and will readily consume any fish or crustacean small enough to fit in their mouths, including smaller tank mates. Therefore, tank mates must be chosen carefully, opting for larger, robust species. Their diet should consist of meaty foods such as krill, shrimp, and other small fish, ensuring they receive a well-rounded and nutritious intake. While generally hardy, providing ample rockwork with caves and crevices for hiding is crucial for their well-being.
