The Pilotfish is an amazing schooling fish for large aggressive fish only tanks. Pilotfish have a long and slender body that is mostly golden yellow with strong black vertical stripes.

Pilotfish reach a maximum adult size of around 48 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 500 gallons in size. Pilotfish will grow extremely fast and will also start to eat smaller fish. For this reason Pilotfish are not a good choice for reef tanks.

Pilotfish are schooling fish by nature and really do best in schools. Since they are so large, you would need a very large tank to have a school of Pilotfish. If your tank is big enough, a school of Pilotfish can really be a showstopper in your tank.

Pilotfish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods such are chunks of fresh seafood like clams, fish, squid, scallops and shrimp will keep your Pilotfish healthy and happy.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Pilotfish and if it’s the right fish for your tank.
