The Red Scat is an interesting and rare brackish water fish. Red Scats have a mostly yellow body with strong red hues with strong tan vertical stripes.

Red Scats reach a maximum size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Red Scats are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother most other fish in your tank. Red Scats do not do well in reef tanks since they don't live well at the levels of salinity needed to keep coral.

Red Scats are hard to keep fish since they are brackish fish. Red Scats can live in saltwater while spawning though, but tend to prefer lower levels of salt.

Red Scats are omnivores and need to be fed a mix of green and meaty foods. Foods like nori, marine algae sheets, brine and mysis shrimp and high quality flake foods will keep your Red Scat healthy and thriving.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Red Scat and if it's the right fish for your tank.
