The Disappearing Wrasse is a very colorful and active little wrasse. Disappearing Wrasses have a mostly red and orange body with many thin horizontal stripes. Disappearing Wrasses also have a blue line along their dorsal fin.

Disappearing Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 3 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons in size. Disappearing Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks that have a tight fitting hood with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. Disappearing Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and might bother some other fish in your tank. Disappearing Wrasses will leave inverts and corals alone, making them a good addition to reef tanks.

Disappearing Wrasses have been known to bother some similar wrasses in smaller tanks. Groups of all female or one male with multiple Disappearing Wrasses can be kept in larger tanks, multiple males will be aggressive to each other. Disappearing Wrasses will thrive in tanks with lots of live rock and sand in their tank. Disappearing Wrasses will pick at small inverts off of the rock and also hide in it if they feel threatened. Disappearing Wrasses will also burrow in the sand at night. Without sand, Disappearing Wrasses will become stressed and potentially ill.

Disappearing Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods should help your Disappearing Wrasse stay happy and healthy.
