  • Description
  • The Hammer Coral is one of the most elegant and easily recognizable of all large polyp stony (LPS) corals. The Hammer Coral gets its name from its polyps which look like the head of a hammer. Hammer Corals can come in a wide range of stunning colors as well.

    Hammer Corals are known to be aggressive corals, and will extend their tentacles out at night and sting neighboring corals. For this reason it is best to provide tons of room between Hammer Corals and their neighbors. Hammer Corals are even able to sting close by fish.

    Hammer Corals are pretty easy to take care of as well. They need to be placed near the bottom to the middle of the tank. They do not do well when very close to super intense lighting. Hammer Corals prefer both moderate lighting and flow rates. If you see that your Hammer Coral is retracted a lot, try moving it slightly until you see more polyp extension.

    Hammer Corals get most of their nutrition from photosynthesis and the water column. If you would like to supplement your Hammer Corals diet, try adding micro-plankton or baby brine shrimp to your tank in the evening hours. Adding trace elements to your tank will also help your Hammer Coral thrive.
