  • Description
  • The Spider Sponge is one of the most stunning additions you can add to your system. Spider Sponges grow in a branching manner and have a mostly red body with bright white polyps.

Spider Sponges can grow extremely tall and wide and that needs to be taken into account when placing them in your tank. Spider Sponges are extremely hard to keep and should only be kept by expert aquarists who know their special care needs. Spider Sponges tend to enjoy tanks with high flow and low to moderate lighting. They typically do not do well in tanks that cater to coral growth. Spider Sponges also do not belong in tanks with starfish, since they will often eat the sponge.

It is very important to monitor your Spider Sponge constantly for any signs of distress. At any signs of distress, try adjusting the location of your Spider Sponge until it appears happy again. It is also very important to not let your Spider Sponge be exposed to air, or it will probably die.

Spider Sponges are omnivores and get most of their nutrition through the water column. If you feel that your Spider Sponge isn't getting enough food, you can try adding plankton and small pieces of mysis shrimp or baby brine shrimp to the tank.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Spider Sponge and if it's the right sponge for your tank.
