The Pygmy Sweeper Cardinal (Parapriacanthus ransonneti), also known as the Golden Sweeper, is a captivating and shimmering fish found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea to Japan and Australia. Despite its name, this fish is not a true cardinalfish, but rather a member of the Pempheridae family. Its most notable feature is its iridescent golden-green head, which seems to glow under the right lighting. Its body is a more subdued silver or bronze color, providing a beautiful contrast. These fish are typically found in large schools, creating a mesmerizing display as they dart and shimmer in the water.

Pygmy Sweeper Cardinals are primarily nocturnal feeders, emerging from their hiding places in caves and under overhangs at night to feast on plankton. During the day, they retreat to their shelters, where they form dense schools for protection. In the aquarium, they require a dimly lit environment with plenty of hiding places, as well as a diet of live or frozen zooplankton. Their peaceful nature and stunning appearance make them a popular addition to saltwater aquariums, adding a touch of shimmering magic to the underwater world.
