  • Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums (ORA) calls their Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish their most distinct clownfish variety to date.

    The amazing appearance of the Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish comes from a similar mutation that produces their Platinum Percula clownfish. The main difference is that as the Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish matures, its body changes from brilliant white to a shimmering gold color.

    While a captive bred clownfish, the Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish is still a Maroon Clownfish meaning that is considered an aggressive fish. This means that they can be aggressive to other smaller fish, especially other clownfish. Also multiple Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish can only be kept together if they are a mated pair.

    Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish will also host in some species of anemones. The anemones will provide protection to the Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish since it is immune to the sting of the anemone while the larger fish are not.

    When adding a Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish to your display or quarantine tank, make sure you do not use a net, since they are often injured by nets. It is best to use a clear plastic or acrylic container to move a Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish around. Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish are Omnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. High quality frozen marine fish foods, mysis shrimp and high quality flake and pellet foods will keep your Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish healthy and happy. Also Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish are aggressive eats and are not picky at all.
