  • Description
  • The Sergeant Major is a very commonly found and colorful fish. Sergeant Majors have a mostly white body with strong black vertical stripes and yellow on their backs.

Sergeant Majors reach a maximum adult size of around 9 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons in size. Sergeant Majors are aggressive fish, but shouldn't bother most fish, coral and inverts in your tank. This makes Sergeant Majors a good fish to put in reef tanks.

Sergeant Majors will be aggressive towards other damsels and similarly sized fish in smaller tanks. In larger tanks, larger schools of Sergeant Majors can be very interesting to watch and add a nice dash of color and movement to the tank. Sergeant Majors are very outgoing fish and will be out in the open for most of the day.

Sergeant Majors are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as high quality frozen foods will keep your Sergeant Major healthy and happy.
