  • The Engineer Goby is a very interesting fish that doesn’t really fit in any family of fish. Engineer Gobies have a long dark body with various yellow markings.

    As the Engineer Goby ages, its marking change tremendously, at times it can be blue and other times it will be jet black. Sometimes the Engineer Goby even resembles a small Tesselata eel. Engineer Gobies aren’t in the same family as other blennies or gobies either. Engineer Gobies can reach a maximum adult size of around 13 inches and need to be kept in a tank that is at least 55 gallons.

    Engineer Gobies need to be housed in an aquarium with both a decent depth sand bed and lots of live rock. Engineer Gobies will burrow in the sand bed and also search for food in it. Engineer Gobies will also frequently hide in live rock if they feel threatened.

    Engineer Gobies are rather peaceful fish and will not bother other fish, coral or inverts in reef tanks. Engineer Gobies can be kept together, but should be introduced at the same time to reduce the chance of aggression.

    Engineer Gobies are carnivores and need a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as high quality meaty frozen foods will keep your Engineer Goby healthy and thriving.
