  • Description
  • The Blue Devil is a stunning large and colorful fish. Blue Devils have a mostly deep blue body covered with lots of lighter colored marks. Juvenile Blue Devils tend to have a mostly white body with blue spots on their faces. As the fish ages the blue takes over its entire body.

The Blue Devil can reach a fully grown adult size of around 14 inches and needs to be kept in a tank that is at least 125 gallons. Blue Devils are peaceful fish that should get along with most other fish and coral in your tank. Blue Devils do not bother other similarly sized or large fish, but will try to eat smaller fish and inverts. For this reason, they can be added to reef tanks, but caution should be taken for smaller fish and inverts.

Blue Devils are very rare fish and are hard to find, which is why they carry such a high price tag. They are also found in deeper waters, so they require a slightly lower than normal temperature in the tank. Having lots of live rock is also essential to keeping a Blue Devil. The rock will provide cover from the intense lighting found in our tanks.

Blue Devils are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Blue Devils are sometimes picky eaters when first introduced to aquariums, so some might require the use of live foods, like feeder shrimp, to get them to eat. After they are eating foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and chunks of fresh seafood like fish, scallops, shrimp and squid will help your Blue Devil stay healthy and thrive.
