  • Description
  • The Giant Hawkfish is a huge and very rarely seen hawkfish in home aquariums. Giant Hawkfish are very popular with scuba divers because of their big personalities. Giant Hawkfish have a mostly green body with strong orange markings outlined in brilliant blue.

Giant Hawkfish reach a maximum adult size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 300 gallons. Giant Hawkfish are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother most fish and coral. Smaller fish and inverts might be attacked by larger Giant Hawkfish though. For this reason, it is advised that you only add a Giant Hawkfish to large reef tanks with caution.

Giant Hawkfish are strong jumpers and should only be kept in tanks with tight fitting lids that they can't jump through if they get spooked. Giant Hawkfish will also do well in tanks with tons of live rock for them to hide and perch on and also pick at small inverts from. If your tank is large enough, a Giant Hawkfish can be an extremely interesting and rewarding addition to then tank.

Giant Hawkfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. As juveniles, Giant Hawkfish can do well on a diet of mysis and brine shrimp and meaty frozen foods. As a Giant Hawkfish gets larger, it should be moved over to a diet of chunks of fresh seafood like clams, squid, shrimp, scallops and fish.
