  • The Axilspot Hogfish is a colorful and uniquely colored hogfish. Axilspot Hogfish start life as a black fish with nine white spots on it. As the Axilspot Hogfish ages, its coloration changes to a red front half with a white back half and a yellow tail. Axilspot Hogfish also develops three strong black spots on its body.

    Axilspot Hogfish can reach an adult size of 8 inches, so it needs to be kept in an aquarium of at least 75 gallones. The Axilspot Hogfish is a great fish to add to a reef tank, since it is mostly peaceful and should leave fish, inverts and coral alone. Very small shrimp might be bothered by the Axilspot Hogfish though. If you want to have multiple Axilspot Hogfish in your tank, you need to add them to the tank at the same time to lower the chances of aggression over territory.

    The Axilspot Hogfish is a carnivore and requires a diet rich in meaty foods. The best types of foods to offer an Axilspot Hogfish are mysis and brine shrimp, live feeder shrimp, pellet and flake foods.
