  • Spanish Hogfish are a stunning blue and yellow fish found in the Atlantic Ocean. They have a long streamlined body with its upper half covered in blue and the lower half bright yellow.

    Spanish Hogfish can reach a full adult size of 11 inches and need to be kept in a tank that is at least 125 gallons. Spanish Hogfish start out life as peaceful juveniles, but turn more aggressive as they get older. Spanish Hogfish when mature will eat smaller fish and inverts found in the tank. In FOWLR tanks they do very well and will even pick parasites off of their tankmates.

    As for being reef safe, if you plan on removing the Spanish Hogfish from your tank and putting it in a FOWLR tank when mature, the juvenile Spanish Hogfish isn’t a bad choice for reef tanks. Spanish Hogfish are just not suitable for reef tanks when they are mature.

    Spanish Hogfish are carnivores and need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis shrimp, chunks of high quality frozen or fresh seafood such as shrimp, squid, clams and small fish will help your Spanish Hogfish grow and thrive in your tank.
