  • Description
  • The Swordtail Jawfish is a unique and very rare jawfish. Swordtail Jawfish tend to be mostly tan in color with strong brown markings.

Swordtail Jawfish reach a maximum adult size of around 7 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Swordtail Jawfish are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks that have a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. Swordtail Jawfish are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Swordtail Jawfish a great fish for reef tanks.

Swordtail Jawfish can be kept in small groups if they are introduced at the same time and should be introduced at the same time. Swordtail Jawfish will do best when kept in tanks with lots of live rock and sand in them. Swordtail Jawfish will look through the live rock for small inverts to eat between meals and need to burrow in the substrate. Lack of substrate in your tank can stress your Swordtail Jawfish and possibly lead to illness.

Swordtail Jawfish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Swordtail Jawfish healthy and happy.
