  • The Green Scat is a very interesting and unique fish. Green Scats have a mostly tan to yellow body with strong brown polkadots.

    Green Scats reach a maximum adult size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons in size. Green Scats are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother too many other fish, coral or inverts in your tank.

    Green Scats prefer brackish water, but can tolerate saltwater if they are acclimated to it. Green Scats will do best in tanks with lots of marine plants and rocks for them to swim amongst and hide in if they feel threatened being a peaceful fish. Green Scats can normally do well in small groups if they are introduced at the small time. Green Scats are very hard to care for fish since they prefer to live in lower salinity environments and should be provided a brackish tank. Please only attempt a Green Scat if you have experience with the species before or are an expert aquarist.

    Green Scats are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like nori and marine algae sheets, high quality frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will keep your Green Scat healthy and happy.
