  • Description
  • The Bamboo Cat Shark is a small and very attractive shark. Bamboo Cat Sharks have a mostly dark brown body with tan and white spots. They get their name from their barbels which resemble a feline's whiskers.

Bamboo Cat Sharks reach a maximum size of around 40 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 350 gallons. Bamboo Cat Sharks are aggressive fish and shouldn't be kept with any fish small enough to fit into their mouths. Bamboo Cat Sharks shouldn't be kept in reef tanks since they will eat small fish and inverts and can also knock over rocks and coral with their size.

Bamboo Cat Sharks need to be kept in tanks with a soft deep sand bed. Coarser sands can scratch their undersides and lead to infections. This is extremely important due to how much time Bamboo Cat Sharks spend on the sand bed.

Bamboo Cat Sharks are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. They are picky eaters when first introduced to captivity, so live foods might need to be used to get them eating. Once they are used to life in an aquarium, you can use chunks of fresh seafood to feed your Bamboo Cat Shark. Bamboo Cat Sharks are an extremely hard species to keep, so please make sure you are either an expert aquarist or have experience with sharks before trying to keep a Bamboo Cat Shark.
