  • Description
  • The Banded Houndshark is a fairly small shark that can be kept in larger home aquariums. Banded Houndsharks have a long brown and tan muscular body. The Banded Houndshark has some saddles and spots that fade with age as well. As with many sharks, the belly of the Banded Houndshark is white.

Banded Houndsharks reach a maximum size of around 57 inches and need to be housed in tanks that are at least 750 gallons in size. The large the tank the better when it comes to this shark. Banded Houndsharks can be kept in reef tanks, but will eat smaller fish and most inverts. In the wild the diet of the Banded Houndshark is made up mostly of inverts like shrimp, worms and crabs.

Banded Houndsharks need to be kept in aquariums that do not have sharp corners or they will risk injuring themselves if they run into a flat surface. Banded Houndsharks also require a tank with a soft thick sand bed so they do not scratch their skin and get an infection.

As with most sharks, Banded Houndsharks should only be kept by an extremely advanced aquarist. More so, it is recommended that you have kept other species of shark before attempting to keep a Banded Houndshark.
