The Epaulette Shark is a very colorful and smaller shark species. Epaulette Sharks have a mostly tan body with strong dark brown and black markings covering in.

Epaulette Sharks reach a maximum size of around 40 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 350 gallons in size. Epaulette Sharks are aggressive fish and will eat smaller fish and inverts. For this reason, and also their size, they are not recommended to be put in reef systems.

Epaulette Sharks need to be kept in tanks that don't have too many sharp corners to protect their heads from ramming the tank. Epaulette Sharks should only be kept in tanks with a thick sand bed of fine substrate. Coarser substrates will scratch the bellies of an Epaulette Shark and lead to infections. Sand is very important since the Epaulette Shark will spend most of its life on the sand bed.

Epaulette Sharks should only be kept by expert aquarists or those who have lots of experience with the species. Epaulette Sharks are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like fresh pieces of fresh seafood should be offered to your Epaulette Shark. Many times Epaulette Sharks will require live foods like feeder shrimp to get used to eating in their new tank.

If you have any questions about the Epaulette Shark and if it's the right shark for your system, please feel free to contact us at any time.
