The Port Jackson Shark is a stunning and relatively small shark from Australia. Port Jackson Sharks have a mostly tan body with pronounced dark brown and black markings.

Port Jackson Sharks reach a fully grown adult size of around 65 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 750 gallons. Port Jackson Sharks are semi-aggressive and shouldn’t be kept with smaller fish or inverts. Because this and also their size, Port Jackson Sharks are not good choices for reef tanks.

Port Jackson Sharks do extremely well in large tanks, but are considered hard to keep since it can be tricky to get them to eat in an aquarium. Once a Port Jackson Shark starts to eat prepared foods, they are very hardy in aquariums. Live fish are sometimes required to get a Port Jackson Shark to eat.

Port Jackson Sharks should only be kept by aquarists with extensive experience in keeping sharks. Besides needing a very large aquarium, Port Jackson Sharks also require being kept in tanks with a deep sand bed made up of fine sand. Courser substrate can irritate the shark and lead to infections.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Port Jackson Shark and if it’s the right shark for your tank.
