  • Description
  • The Gold Rim Tang is a stunning and very active surgeonfish. Gold Rim Tangs have a mostly black body with brilliant yellow lines along their fins and a white tail.

Gold Rim Tangs reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons in size. Gold Rim Tangs are pretty much peaceful fish that won't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Gold Rim Tangs might be aggressive towards other tangs though, especially other Acanthurus tangs. To try to help reduce aggression, try to introduce all your tangs at the same time and also make sure there is always algae present for them to graze on.

Gold Rim Tangs do best when kept in tanks with lots of horizontal un-obstructed swimming room. Gold Rim Tangs will also thrive in tanks with lots of mature live rock for them to pick at between feedings.

Gold Rim Tangs are susceptible to diseases like marine ich, and should be quarantined before being added to your display tank. Additives like selcon and garlic can be added to their food to help boost their immune system as well. Gold Rim Tangs are herbivores and require a diet rich in green foods. Foods like nori and marine algae sheets, high quality pellet and flake foods, high quality frozen foods and mysis and brine shrimp will help keep your Gold Rim Tang healthy and happy.
