  • The Lavender Tang is a very unique and interesting surgeonfish. Lavender Tangs can vary in color from a deep purple color to light tan. Lavender Tangs have interesting patterns on their faces and horizontal stripes down the length of their bodies.

    Lavender Tangs reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Lavender Tangs are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother too many other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Lavender Tang a great additions to most reef tanks.

    Lavender Tangs will always do best when kept in tanks with lots of horizontal swimming room. Lavender Tangs might be aggressive towards other tangs, especially other Acanthurus tangs. To try and lower aggression between tangs, try to introduce them at the same time and also make sure that you place them in as large of an aquarium as possible. Tangs will also be more peaceful if there is a steady supply of algae for them to eat.

    Lavender Tangs are herbivores and require a diet that is rich in green foods. Foods like nori or marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods, spirulina, high quality frozen foods and mysis and brine shrimp should keep your Lavender Tang healthy and happy.
