  • Description
  • The Orangeshoulder Tang is a very colorful and large surgeonfish. Orangeshoulder Tangs have a mostly grayish-blue body with a strong orange mark behind their eye, which gives them their name. As juveniles, Orangeshoulder Tangs have a much lighter colored spot.

Orangeshoulder Tangs reach a maximum size of around 14 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons in size. Orangeshoulder Tangs are strong swimmers and require a tank with lots of swimming room, longer tanks are better suited for Orangeshoulder Tangs. Orangeshoulder Tangs are pretty peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral and inverts in your tank. This makes them great fish for reef tanks.

Orangeshoulder Tangs can be aggressive to other tangs, especially other Acanthurus tangs, so it's recommended that you add all the tangs you want in your system at the same time. Having a large tank and plenty of algae for the tangs to graze on all day will also help reduce aggression.

Orangeshoulder Tangs are herbivores and require a diet that is rich in green foods. Foods like nori, marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as mysis and brine shrimp will help keep your Orangeshoulder Tang healthy and happy. Adding supplements like selcon and garlic to their food will also help your Orangeshoulder Tang thrive.
