  • Description
  • The Vlamingii Tang is a large and very graceful surgeonfish. Vlamingii Tangs start life has darker colored juveniles with stronger blue spots. As the Vlamingii Tang ages they tend to be more gray and the blue markings are more subtle.

Vlamingii Tangs reach a maximum size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 240 gallons in size. Vlamingii Tangs are very active swimmers and will benefit from tangs that are very long, giving them tons of swimming room. Vlamingii Tangs are peaceful to most fish, coral and inverts and make great additions to reef tanks. Vlamingii Tangs will be aggressive to other tangs in your tank though. To reduce the chance of tang aggressive, try to have as big of a tank as possible and try to introduce your tangs at the same time. Also having algae available to your tangs at all time will help reduce aggression.

Vlamingii Tangs are very susceptible to getting marine ich, so you must quarantine your Vlamingii Tang before adding it to your display tank. Also adding supplements to their food like selcon and garlic will help your Vlamingii Tang stay healthy and thrive.

Vlamingii Tangs are herbivores and need a diet rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, spirulina, high quality flake and pellet foods and mysis shrimp will help keep your Vlamingii Tang healthy and happy.
