  • Description
  • The Sargassum Triggerfish is a stunning and very attractive trigger. Sargassum Triggerfish have a mostly gray body with black spots over its entire body. Sargassum Triggers also have a red tail.

Sargassum Triggerfish reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Sargassum Triggers are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother most fish, coral and inverts in your tank. Sargassum Triggerfish might nip at smaller docile fish especially during feeding times. Sargassum Triggers might also eat some of the inverts in your tank. For these reasons if you want to add a Sargassum Triggerfish to your reef tank, you must proceed with caution.

Sargassum Triggers are somewhat shy fish and need a good amount of live rock to be present in the tank if they feel threatened and want to hide. As Sargassum Triggers get larger they may also enjoy moving some of the rock around to their liking. Sargassum Triggers are very outgoing fish and will follow you around as you walk by and work on your tank.

Sargassum Triggers are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shimp as well as high quality meaty frozen foods are great for smaller Sargassum Triggers. As your Sargassum Triggerfish matures it is best to feed them larger pieces of fresh seafood like clams, scallops, shrimp and squid. Foods with hard shells will keep your Sargassum Triggers teeth ground down as well.
