The Formosa Wrasse is a very large and active wrasse. Formosa Wrasses look very different from their juvenile stage to a fully grown adult. Juveniles have a mostly orange body with very strong vertical white markings. As they age the Formosa Wrasse tends to have a mostly dark colored body with various black spots and a yellow head with a strong white stripe.

Formosa Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons. Formosa Wrasses are very aggressive fish, and shouldn't be kept with smaller docile fish. Formosa Wrasses should also be one of the last fish added to your tank, since they can get very territorial. For these reasons, Formosa Wrasses are a bad choice for reef tanks. Formosa Wrasses will thrive in large fish only tanks with other semi-aggressive to aggressive large fish.

Formosa Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks that have a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Formosa Wrasses will also re-arrange your rock work looking for food.

Formosa Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Formosa Wrasse healthy and happy.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Formosa Wrasse and if it's the right fish for your tank.
