  • Description
  • The Genquivittatum Wrasse is a stunning and very colorful wrasse found only in Mauritius and Reunion Island. Genquivittatum Wrasses have a mostly green body with a strong yellow vertical band behind their head and red heads.

Genquivittatum Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Genquivittatum Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother too many fish or coral in your tank. Genquivittatum Wrasses might go after some inverts and bother tiny fish, so if you'd like to add one to your reef tank, proceed with caution.

Genquivittatum Wrasses will do best when kept in tanks with tight fitting hoods with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. Genquivittatum Wrasse also need to be kept in tanks with lots of live rock and sand. Genquivittatum Wrasses will spend most of their day looking through the rock work for small inverts they can eat between feedings. In the evening the Genquivittatum Wrasse will retire to the sand and burrow for the night to be protected. Without sand, Genquivittatum Wrasses will get stressed out and possibly ill.

Genquivittatum Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp and high quality meaty frozen foods are great for juvenile Genquivittatum Wrasses. As a Genquivittatum Wrasse ages, it will need large meals like chunks of fresh seafood.
