  • Description
  • The Razor Wrasse is a very unique and interesting wrasse. Razor Wrasses have a mostly tan to brow body with various white markings. As juveniles, Razor Wrasses have a large protrusions coming out of their heads.

Razor Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 6 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 150 gallons. Razor Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother many other fish or coral in your tank. Razor Wrasses will go after some of your inverts though. This makes adding a Razor Wrasse to a reef tank risky. If you do add a Razor Wrasse to your reef tank, you must proceed with caution.

Razor Wrasses should only be kept in tanks with tight fitting lids with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. Razor Wrasses are very strong jumpers. Razor Wrasses also have the ability to dive deep into your sand bed to escape predators. A deep sand bed must be kept with Razor Wrasses to keep them from getting stressed and possibly ill. Razor Wrasses can be kept in pairs or small groups, but only one male should be present in the tank to cut down on aggression.

Razor Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood should keep your Razor Wrasse healthy and happy.
