  • Description
  • The Twin Spot Wrasse is a large and very active wrasse. Twin Spot Wrasses start out life as white fish with black spots and two large eye spots on their dorsal fin with orange markings below the eyespots. As the Twin Spot Wrasse ages, it turns more green in color and finally black.

Twin Spot Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 240 gallons. Twin Spot Wrasses are aggressive fish and shouldn't be kept with smaller docile fish. This makes them a risk if adding to a reef tank with smaller fish. Twin Spot Wrasses are very strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through.

Twin Spot Wrasses do very well in small groups. It is advised to keep only a group of females or one male with females together. Male Twin Spot Wrasses will be very aggressive towards other males. Twin Spot Wrasses need to have lots of live rock to pick at between feedings and also a deep layer of sand for them to burrow in at night. Without both, a Twin Spot Wrasse will never be able to adjust to tank life, get stressed out and more than likely ill.

Twin Spot Wrasses are carnivores and need a diet rich in meaty foods. As a juvenile, Twin Spot Wrasses can be fed foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as meaty frozen foods that are high in quality. As a Twin Spot Wrasse ages, it will need to be fed small pieces of fresh seafood.
