  • Description
  • The Knobbed Starfish is a stunning and very colorful starfish. Knobbed Starfish have a thick body with five short arms extending off of it. Knobbed Starfish also have small knobs covering its entire body, hence its name. Knobbed Starfish can be found in a host of colors, but white with red or orange markings are the most common.

Knobbed Starfish reach a maximum adult size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Knobbed Starfish are peaceful starfish and will not bother fish in your tank. Knobbed Starfish are known to eat soft coral, inverts and sponges, which makes them a bad addition to reef tanks.

Knobbed Starfish will excel in tank that have lots of live rock for them to hide in during the day and then scavenge on during the evening hours. Knobbed Starfish will spend most of their lives going through your tank looking for leftover foods to eat. Knobbed Starfish should not be kept with overly aggressive fish that like to eat inverts like triggers and puffers either. Knobbed Starfish will need to be acclimated slowly over at least 2 hours and cannot be exposed to air.

Knobbed Starfish are carnivores and need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Knobbed Starfish healthy and thriving. Knobbed Starfish will receive most of their nutrition through scavenging though.
