  • Description
  • The Clarion Angelfish is one of the most sought after of all fish found in home aquariums. Clarion Angelfish are only found in a tiny area of Mexico off of the Revillagigedo Islands. This rarity is why the Clarion Angelfish carries such a high price tag. Clarion Angels are very rare in the wild, but are not starting to be captive bred with some success. Clarion Angelfish have a mostly bright yellowish orange body with strong electric blue vertical stripes and blue lined fins. As the Clarion Angel ages, it loses most of its blue coloration.

Clarion Angels reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons in size. Clarion Angelfish are semi-aggressive fish but shouldn't bother many other fish and inverts in your tank. Clarion Angelfish might harass other angels in smaller tanks though. Clarion Angels are known to pick at some types of coral and also clams. This makes them a bad choice of fish to add to your reef tank.

Clarion Angelfish will do best in tanks with lots of established live rock. Clarion Angelfish will make their territories out of their favorite rock structure and also take shelter in the rocks when they feel threatened. Clarion Angelfish will also do better in your tank if there is lots of algae and small inverts for them to graze on between feedings. Because of the rarity of the Clarion Angelfish, please only attempt to keep this species if you are an expert aquarist.

Clarion Angels are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods, nori or marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods and spirulina will help your Clarion Angelfish grow and thrive.
