  • Description
  • The Blue Ribbon Eel is a stunning blue and yellow eel from the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It can reach lengths of over 36 inches and should only be kept by export aquarists.

Blue Ribbon Eels have a long slender body with a yellow heads and long yellow line extending down the top of their bodies. At a fully grown size of over 36 inches, the Blue Ribbon Eel should only be kept in tanks of at least 75 gallons. Tanks should have a tight fitting lid and no holes small enough for the Blue Ribbon Eel to escape. The Blue Ribbon Eel is an incredible escape artist, and will find any hole to get out of your tank. A good depth sand bed and lots of rock are also needed for a Blue Ribbon Eel to feel at home.

Blue Ribbon Eels can be kept in reef tanks, but will try to eat anything they can fit in their mouths, including small fish and inverts. Also when your hand is in the tank, the poor sighted Blue Ribbon Eel can mistake it for a meal and bite you. Any eel bite should be closely monitored and might require medical attention.

The Blue Ribbon Eel is a carnivore and needs a diet very rich in meaty foods. Food such as ghost shrimp and krill are great ways to get your Blue Ribbon Eel eating. Also feeding small chunks of cut of fresh seafood on feeding tongs a few times a week is a great method as well.
