  • Description
  • The Jackknife Fish is a very interesting and uniquely shaped fish. Jackknife Fish have elongated fins that make it resemble a jackknife, hence it's name. Jackknife Fish are most white with strong black vertical stripes.

Jackknife Fish reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 120 gallons in size. Jackknife Fish are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish and most corals. Jackknife Fish will eat most inverts they can find though, which makes them a bad choice for reef tanks.

In larger fish only tanks the Jackknife Fish can be a truly stunning addition, especially when added in a small group. If you add multiple Jackknife Fish to a tank, make sure that you introduce them at the same time to reduce the chances of aggression. Jackknife Fish will thrive in tanks with lots of live rock and sand in them. Jackknife Fish will spend most of their time looking through the rock and sand for small inverts to eat between feedings. Also being peaceful fish, they might need to retreat to the rock work if they feel threatened.

Jackknife Fish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood should keep your Jackknife Fish healthy and happy.
