  • Description
  • The Blue Spotted Puffer is a smaller puffer and can be added to a reef tank. Blue Spotted Puffers have a tan body with brilliant blue marking and white spots.

Blue Spotted Puffers reach a fully mature size of 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons. Blue Spotted Puffers are rather peaceful fish and will not bother other fish in your tank. They do best in peaceful to semi-aggressive FOWLR tanks. Blue Spotted Puffers can be added to reef tanks, but they might go after some smaller inverts. It’s really up to the individual personality of the fish and how reef safe it will be.

Blue Spotted Puffers will puff up when they are startled, it is very stressful on the fish, so you should not try to trigger this behavior. Also when using a net on a Blue Spotted Puffer, it can get extremely stressed out. It is better to use a container when transferring Blue Spotted Puffers.

Blue Spotted Puffers are omnivores and need a diet rich in both meaty and green foods. Hard shelled inverts are good to add to their meals, since they will help grind down their teeth. Other foods such as high quality chunks of seafood like clams, squid and shrimp.
