  • Description
  • The Spotted Puffer is a very cute and colorful smaller pufferfish. Spotted Puffers have a mostly reddish tan body covered in white spots and white belly.

    Spotted Puffers reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Spotted Puffers are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Spotted Puffers might eat some smaller inverts though, so for this reason you must proceed with caution if you're adding a Spotted Puffer to your reef tank.

    Spotted Puffers have the ability to inflate their body to over twice its normal size to scare off predators, for this reason you should never use a net to transport a Spotted Puffer. An acrylic or plastic container will work much better to move your Spotted Puffer from tank to tank. Inflating is also very stressful on the Spotted Puffer, so you should never try to get one to inflate for your amusement.

    Spotted Puffers are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods and high quality pellet and flake foods should keep your Spotted Puffer healthy and happy.
