  • Description
  • The Chevron Tang is highly sought over as a juvenile for its amazing orange coloration. Juvenile Chevron Tangs have a completely bright red body with strong purple markings on it. As the Chevron Tang matures it loses its orange color and becomes black. The markings remain, but they have a more metallic look to them on the black body. We think they are beautiful in their own ways.

Chevron Tangs grow to a fully grown size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Chevron Tangs are strong swimmers and like to have plenty of swimming room and flow in the tank. Chevron Tangs are peaceful fish that will get along with most fish, coral and inverts found in reef tanks. Chevron Tangs will be aggressive to other tangs though, especially those in the Ctenochaetus family. If you want to keep multiple tangs in your tank, try to add them at the same time or have a very large tank to reduce the chance of aggression.

Chevron Tangs are also known as world class rock cleaners. They will constantly pick at your live rock and substrate for algae, leftover food and detritus. Chevron Tangs are truly an unsung reef janitor.

Chevron Tangs are herbivores and require a diet very rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, spirulina, high quality flake and pellet foods and mysis shrimp will keep your Chevron Tang healthy and thriving. Chevron Tangs will also benefit from adding supplements like garlic and selcon to their food, which will boost their immune system.
