  • Description
  • The Chocolate Tang is a very interesting and unique surgeonfish. Chocolate Tangs start live as mostly all yellow fish with a blue eye, often called Mimic Lemon Peel Tangs. As they mature they low their yellow color and become more brown fish with grey and yellow highlights.

Chocolate Tangs can reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Chocolate Tangs do best when they have lots of horizontal swimming room. Chocolate Tangs are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes them great fish for reef tanks.

Chocolate Tangs might be aggressive to other tangs, especially other Acanthurus tangs. To help reduce aggression between tangs you can try to add them all at the same time and make sure that at all times there is plenty of algae for them to graze on.

Chocolate Tangs are herbivores and will spend most of their days grazing on algae on your rocks. Chocolate Tangs do best when feed green foods like nori and marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods, high quality frozen foods and mysis and brine shrimp.
