  • Description
  • The Powder Blue Tang is probably the most colorful and stunning of all the surgeonfish. Powder Blue Tangs have a round body which is mostly a light power blue with a yellow fins and a black mask on their face.

Powder Blue Tangs can grow up to 9 inches and need an aquarium of at least 125 gallons. Powder Blue Tangs are very active swimmers and will normally do better in larger tanks with ample swimming room. Powder Blue Tangs also love a lot of water flow and will often be found playing in your aquariums flow.

Powder Blue Tangs are considered semi-aggressive fish, but can be very aggressive to other tangs, especially those in the Acanthurus family. To help reduce aggression, try to keep plenty of green foods in the aquarium like sheets of nori attached to live rock rubble. Also it seems to work out better to introduce multiple Tangs at the same time into your aquarium. Powder Blue Tangs are known to be very venerable to marine ich, so a proper quarantine procedure is a must for these tangs. Also keeping Powder Blue Tangs in low stress environments will help keep them healthy.

Powder Blue Tangs are 100% reef safe and will not bother any coral or inverts which are essential to keeping a thriving reef tank. Powder Blue Tangs are herbivores and require a diet rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, marine seaweed, spirulina, high quality flake and pellet foods along with mysis shrimp will help your Powder Blue Tang flourish in your aquarium. Adding supplements like Selcon to their food will also greatly help out your Powder Blue Tang.
