  • Description
  • The Clown Tang is one of the most striking and beautiful of all the surgeonfish. Clown Tangs despite being so beautiful are also one of the most aggressive tangs. Clown Tangs have a most yellow body covered in stunning electric blue horizontal stripes. Clown Tangs also have orange fins and markings on their faces.

Clown Tangs reach a maximum size of around 15 inches and need to housed in aquariums that are at least 180 gallons in size. They are strong swimmers and prefer longer aquariums with plenty of swimming room. Clown Tangs are peaceful fish to other non-tang fish. When Clown Tangs are housed with other tangs they will try to become the dominant tang in the tank and in some cased will attack and kill other tangs it sees as a threat to dominance. Clown Tangs are reef safe fish and will not bother inverts or corals found in reef tanks.

Clown Tangs are susceptible to many fish diseases, so it is critical that you quarantine them before adding them to your display tank. Adding supplements like selcon and garlic to a Clown Tangs food will help keep their immune systems up and diseases away.

Clown Tangs are herbivores and require a diet that is very rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods, spirulina and mysis shrimp will keep your Clown Tang nice and healthy.
