  • The Mimic Half Black Tang is a fairly rare and beautiful surgeonfish. Mimic Half Black Tangs have a mostly black to light brown body with stunning goldish yellow markings.

    Mimic Half Black Tangs reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons in size. Mimic Half Black Tangs are semi-aggressive fish, but really should bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. For this reason they Mimic Half Black Tang is a great fish to put in reef tanks. Mimic Half Black Tangs might be aggressive to other tangs, especially other Acanthurus tangs. To help reduce aggression between tangs, it's advised to add them all at the same time to as large of an aquarium as possible. Tangs will also be less aggressive when there is a constant supply of algae for them to graze on.

    Since Mimic Half Black Tangs are such strong swimmers they need to be kept in tanks with lots of horizontal swimming room. Mimic Half Black Tangs are also found in surge zones along the reef, so they like to be in tanks with lots of random strong flow. Mimic Half Black Tangs also need lots of live rock present in the tank to graze on between feedings.

    Mimic Half Black Tangs are herbivores and require a diet that is rich in green foods. Foods like nori and marine algae sheets, spirulina, high quality flake and pellet foods, high quality frozen foods and mysis and brine shrimp will keep your Mimic Half Black Tang healthy and happy.
