  • Description
  • The Starry Triggerfish is a very rare and beautiful trigger. Starry Triggers have a mostly white body with strong black markings along their back and yellow spots all along their bodies which resemble stars, hence their name. As the Starry Triggerfish ages, the black markings start to fade.

Starry Triggers reach a maximum adult size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 300 gallons in size. Starry Triggerfish are aggressive fish that will bother smaller fish and most inverts. For this reason, Starry Triggers are a bad choice of fish to add to reef tanks.

Starry Triggerfish will thrive in very large fish only tanks with lots of other semi-aggressive to aggressive larger fish. Since Starry Triggers can grow so large, they need to be kept in huge aquariums with a lot of open swimming room. Starry Triggers should also be kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hide in if they feel threatened and also claim their own territories in the rock work.

Starry Triggers are carnivores and require a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality flake and pellet foods and high quality meaty frozen foods will keep your juvenile Starry Triggerfish healthy and happy. As your Starry Triggerfish ages, it will need more substantial foods like chunks of fresh seafood to stay satisfied. Also foods with hard shells will keep your Starry Triggers teeth ground down.
